Mediante un comunicado oficial de su familia, se informó que anoche falleció Bárbara Walters, la legendaria periodista y presentadora de noticias estadounidense. Tenía 93 años y más de 50 dedicados al periodismo. Murió en su residencia de New York rodeada de sus afectos.
"Barbara Walters falleció en paz, rodeada de sus seres queridos, en su casa. Vivió su vida sin remordimientos. Fue una pionera no solo para las mujeres periodistas sino para todas las mujeres”, según el comunicado oficial que su portavoz, Cindi Berger, compartió con CNN.
Nació el 25 de septiembre de 1929 en Boston, Massachusetts. En 1976, comenzó a trabajar en ABC News y se convirtió en la primera mujer presentadora de uno de los grandes noticieros de Estados Unidos en horario estelar. En tiempos donde los rostros masculinos dominaban la televisión, ella se erigió como la principal voz femenina.
Tres años más tarde fue copresentadora de otro ciclo histórico: 20/20. En 1997, lanzó junto a Bill Geddie el programa The View, un talk show en el que un grupo de mujeres debatían sobre temas de la actualidad.
También entrevistó a todos los presidentes y primeras damas de Estados Unidos entre 1974 y 2016, desde Richard y Pat Nixon hasta Barack y Michelle Obama.
